About

Hi, I’m Ed Goodwin. I live in Houston, TX with my wife and three kids. I play guitar (badly) and listen to music way too loud for everyone’s tastes. I’m also a huge soccer fan, and am a die-hard supporter of the Houston Dynamo FC and Tottenham Hotspurs.

I’m also one of the founders of Rana Analytics, a boutique consulting company focused on helping customers leverage the OneStream platform to accelerate their financial analytics and accounting processes.

I geek out on all things Finance and Technology, and not always in that order. I grew up in the early days of the internet, and my first job out of school was as a Unix developer for a large property & casualty insurance company. Since then, I’ve leveraged my programming skills in finance organizations to improve forecasting, discover operational inefficiencies and optimize closing and reporting processes. I was also the founder of the Houston R Users Group and one of the lead developers of pipefittr, an R package that takes nested function calls and parses them into more readable magrittr style pipes.

Even though I mostly work in Windows these days, I’m in love with BSD Unix systems, so you can usually find me toying around with a FreeBSD or OpenBSD installation somewhere in the house. I’ve also found that a good use for old Macbooks is to throw Ubuntu on them and extend their usefulness long after Apple has decided to make it necessary for me to upgrade my hardware. To that end, if you want to steal my .bashrc scripts and things I use to make my various *nix installations more useful, feel free to look around my Github repo.
