Making a make.conf File

The /etc/make.conf file is the control file for Portage. Here, you store the system's particular USE settings, the FEATURES and the CHOST and CFLAGS for the gcc compiler. There are many other options that can be set here and it's simply a text file that could easily be confused with a file that sets environment variables.
