Coraid Releases ATA-over-Ethernet Driver for SolarisTM

Coraid, Inc. released an ATA-over-Ethernet (AoE) driver for the Solaris operating system. According to the announcement, the new Solaris driver is provided as both source code and a loadable binary and can be downloaded from Coraid's Web site (http://www.coraid.com) at no cost. The new driver works with 32-bit and 64-bit SPARC-based systems running Solaris 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Coraid sells its AoE storage products under the brand name EtherDrive. AoE is a non-routed protocol. According to the company, by eliminating the overhead of TCP/IP, there is no need for ToE (TCP/IP off-loan Engine) cards or HBAs (Host Bus Adapters). Levanta Unveils Intrepid M Linux 4.2

Levanta announced that the 4.2 version of its Intrepid M Linux management appliance now supports shared storage environments such as NetApp and OnStor. According to the company, virtual machine migration, GUI enhancements, and additional Linux distro support (including Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4) have been added in this release. The company says that Intrepid M allows systems administrators to manage both Linux hardware and virtual servers (VMware and Xen) from a single management interface. The Intrepid M starts at $8,995.

SteelEye Introduces LifeKeeper and Data Replication v6

SteelEye Technology announced two new products: LifeKeeper for Linux v6, and SteelEye Data Replication v6. According to the company, LifeKeeper for Linux v6 protects VMware ESX Server 2.5 and also adds management for applications and data residing in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 from Novell and VMware Infrastructure 3 systems. Using this new product, applications can be migrated among servers in a variety of cluster configurations including physical-to-physical, virtual-to-virtual, and physical-to-virtual failovers. This flexibility allows users to build the cluster that best matches their availability needs and best leverages their existing infrastructure.

Oracle Expands Validated Configurations Effort

Oracle announced the expansion of its Oracle Validated Configurations effort with the addition of new configurations and partners -- Brocade, Cisco Systems, and Pillar Data Systems. According to the announcement, customers now will have access to a broader range of pre-tested and validated architectures, software, hardware, storage, and networking components, to help accelerate and simplify their Oracle on Linux deployments.

Penguin Computing Ships Scyld ClusterWare HPC

Penguin Computing announced availability of its new Scyld ClusterWare platform, which provides a virtualized cluster environment that is so easy to manage, even non-system administrators can run a cluster, according to the company. Scyld ClusterWare HPC significantly improves system scalability while retaining overall simplicity of management with enhanced "just-in-time" provisioning. This new cluster technology also supports multiple operating systems, including CentOS and Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES, so that standard applications run "out-of-box," giving customers broad application compatibility in a predictable environment.
