Platform Computing Releases Platform Rocks SE for HP Cluster
Platform 3000
Platform Computing Inc. announced that Platform Rocks Standard
Edition (SE) will be available as a cluster management solution
for the HP Cluster Platform 3000. According to the company, Platform
Rocks SE is a commercially supported and enhanced implementation
of the open source cluster management toolkit, NPACI Rocks. Platform
Rocks SE is a standardized tool to simplify management and make
it easier for users to rapidly deploy, configure, and monitor their
cluster environment. HP Cluster Platform 3000 is based on Intel
Xeon and provides a modular, standards-based platform designed to
handle the high-performance computing needs for clusters between
5 and 1024 nodes.

Simena Unveils Traffic Generator TG1000
Simena announced Traffic Generator TG1000, test equipment for
network testing. According to the company, its Capture+ACY-Replay
feature can be used to capture high-speed real-time data packets
without affecting quality. The TG1000 also provides high-speed controllable
traffic generation and can saturate gigabit Ethernet connections
with traffic characterized by Ethernet, IP addresses, and TCP/UDP
port numbers. Source and destination addresses, as well as payload,
can be modified for each packet to create more realistic load effects.
TG1000 is a portable appliance with 10/100/1000BaseTX interfaces.
It is managed by a Web GUI and provides detailed statistics.

Aventail Adds Web Collaboration Solution to SSL VPN
Aventail Corp. announced that the company is adding a Web collaboration
solution to its secure, remote access product. According to the
company, Aventail Secure Collaboration is a full-featured collaboration
solution that includes Web conferencing, instant messaging, secure

VPN.

Objective Development Announces Sharity 3.0
Objective Development announced the availability of Sharity 3.0,
a new major release of their SMB file system for Unix. According
to the company, Windows domain integration (including Kerberos authentication
and Active Directory browsing), distributed file system access,
manipulation of Access Control Lists, a German localization, and
other improvements are new in 3.0.
Sharity mounts shares exported by Windows, Samba, and other SMB/CIFS
servers in the file system of Unix computers. Sharity implements
resource browsing similar to the Windows Network Neighborhood (Netbios
Workgroups and Active Directory), NTLM, NTLMv2, and Kerberos authentication,
Microsoft's Distributed File System (DFS), manipulation of Access
Control Lists (ACLs). It is available for Sun Solaris, HP-UX, SGI
IRIX, IBM AIX, Mac OS X, Linux, FreeBSD, and OpenBSD operating systems.
Sharity 3 comes with a free, built-in evaluation license. Commercial

OpenLogic Releases BlueGlue Version 3.5
OpenLogic, Inc. released version 3.5 of its BlueGlue Open Source
Infrastructure Management Suite. According to the company, the new
version adds features making it easier for the enterprise to integrate
open source, commercial, and proprietary software in mixed Windows
and Linux environments. Additionally, BlueGlue now offers more than
150 "best of breed" open source projects that have been integrated,
tested, and validated for interoperability and certified for multiple
platforms used in development and production environments.
The company says the BlueGlue 3.5 release includes the ability
to add user-selected open source software and proprietary software
or third party commercial packages along with documentation and
test suites. Custom documentation or test cases may be added to
any existing open source software in BlueGlue. Users of the 3.5
release can also modify or add notations to supported open source
software descriptions that are relevant to specific projects or
policies established by the development team.

LaCie Introduces GlobeTrotter 2.0
LaCie announced the release of a mobile USB hard drive pre-loaded
with a specially tuned version of Mandriva Linux Limited Edition
2005 operating system, the GlobeTrotter 2.0 in 40GB or 80GB. According
to the company, GlobeTrotter 2.0 allows users to turn any PC into
their personal Linux desktop.
GlobeTrotter 2.0 offers a complete work environment in one lightweight
package. Users can plug GlobeTrotter 2.0 into the USB port of a
host PC and turn it on. Hardware on the host computer is automatically
detected but is not modified in any way. When the job is done, GlobeTrotter
2.0 can be taken to a different workstation with up to 80 GB of
a user's data, including applications and personal settings.
Among the included software is the productivity suite OpenOffice.org,
integrated personal information management software such as Kontact
and Evolution, as well as full-featured development tools. LaCie
GlobeTrotter 2.0 comes with 30 days of Web support from Mandriva

Sun Announces Sun Fire T1000/T2000 Servers and OpenSPARC Project
Sun announced today the release of the Sun Fire T1000 and T2000
servers, featuring patented CoolThreads technology. According to
the company, the new servers are based on the UltraSPARC T1 processor
and offer exceptional performance for Web, database, and application
processing. The new system is designed to save customers in power,
cooling, and space costs.
Sun also announced its intent to open source its UltraSPARC processor
technology and publish certain specifications for the UltraSPARC-based
chip including the source of the design expressed in Verilog, a
verification suite and simulation models, instruction set architecture
specification (UltraSPARC Architecture 2005), and a Solaris OS port.

HP Unveils Halo Collaboration Studios
Hewlett-Packard announced the HP Halo Collaboration Studio, which
enables people in different locations to communicate in a face-to-face
environment in real time. According to the company, whether across
a country or across the world, users are able to see and hear one
another's physical and emotional reactions to conversation and information
as it is being shared.
To connect via Halo, organizations purchase at least two Halo
rooms set up for six people each. There are three plasma displays
in each room that enable participants to see those they are collaborating
with in life-size images. The rooms come equipped with studio-quality
audio and lighting and participants use an on-screen user interface
to begin collaborating with a few mouse clicks. To ensure a 24x7
connection and eliminate the need for enterprises to manage the
operation and maintenance of a Halo room, services offered include
