Borland Software Corporation has announced Borland C++Builder 6, which provides rapid application development of e-business applications with Web Services support in a C++ visual development environment. Jungo Introduces USB 2.0 Support for Driver Development Tools v5.04

Jungo Software Technologies Inc. has released version 5.04 of WinDriver, KernelDriver, and Hardware Debugger, its driver development toolkits. Version 5.04, delivers supplementary documentation, and includes various bug fixes and improvements. Jungo is also releasing GO-HotSwap v5.04, an enhanced Hot Swap software solution for the CompactPCI High Availability market.

Version 5.04 offers USB 2.0 support for Windows 2000 and XP in addition to USB 1.1 support. The toolkits support Control, Bulk, Interrupt and Isochronous data transfers, pipe reset and device reset operations, and support both low- and high-speed devices under EHCI, UHCI, and OHCI host controllers.

Excel Software Announces QuickUML Linux 1.0 and QuickHelp Linux 1.0

Excel Software has announced QuickUML Linux 1.0, a Linux addition to its suite of Macintosh and Windows software engineering tools, and QuickHelp Linux 1.0, a development tool for quickly creating and distributing online help for Linux applications.

QuickUML Linux 1.0 is an object-oriented design tool that provides extensive integration and unmatched ease-of-use for a core set of UML models. An entire project is accessible through a tabbed window with smooth integration between use cases, class models, object models, dictionary, and code. The project is saved as an XML file that is compatible with QuickUML Windows, so design work can be shared between platforms.

QuickHelp Linux 1.0 brings professional online help to Linux KDE and GNOME desktops. QuickHelp consists of a QuickHelp Builder for creating help systems and a QuickHelp Viewer for deploying to end users.

Vital Releases CRiSP v8.0

Vital, Inc. has announced CRiSP v8.0, its visual text editor for Unix and Windows developers. New features in CRiSP v8.0 include context tagging and navigation, auto-parameter/section help, new dynamic search technologies, and proximity search-and-replace capabilities for multiple files and buffers. The development of FTP client editing provides easy access to files via remote login; users can create and run multiple sessions at once. ActiveState Ships PDK 4.0

ActiveState has announced PDK (Perl Dev Kit) 4.0, a toolkit for Perl programmers. PDK 4.0 adds support for the Microsoft .NET Framework, Windows 9x, and HP-UX. Existing Perl scripts can now be turned into .NET components and used seamlessly in .NET Framework applications.

New features include PerlApp, which turns Perl programs into ready-to-run executables; PerlCtrl, which creates ActiveX controls written in Perl; and PerlNet, which uses existing .NET objects from Perl, creates new .NET components in Perl, and inherits from and extends components written in other languages with Perl code.

GrammaTech Unveils CodeSurfer 1.6

GrammaTech, Inc. has announced CodeSurfer 1.6, a next-generation maintenance, understanding, inspection, and analysis tool with full support for Linux. CodeSurfer’s program-analysis techniques precompute program properties allowing analysis and understanding of ANSI C source code. It provides precise inter-procedural program slicing and pointer analysis and automatically generates hyperlinks to make navigating code dependencies similar to surfing the Web.

New features in CodeSurfer 1.6 include inspecting type information, surfing macro definitions from their use in the code, queries on the points-to-set of actual parameters of functions, and enhanced scalability and build performance.

Tetradyne Offers SourceView ActiveX Control v3

Tetradyne Software Inc. has announced SourceView ActiveX Control v3, a syntax-highlighting text editor. Version 3 can be customized for coloring of any language syntax. In most cases, customization involves setting control properties; more complex cases use COM interface hooks to plug in custom parsing implementations. Text editing features include proportional fonts, drag-and-drop, undo/redo, search and replace, DBCS/UNICODE, splitter panes, bookmarks, printing, and margin area for line markers.

SoftIntegration Announces Ch v2.1

SoftIntegration, Inc., has announced Ch v2.1, a C/C++ interpreter for scripting. A superset of C with C++ classes, Ch supports C90, major features in C99, classes in C++, and industry standards for POSIX, X11/Motif, OpenGL, ODBC, XML, and GTK+. It is the first implementation of complex numbers and VLAs (variable length arrays) in C99.

Ch offers built-in graphical support, generic mathematic functions and computational arrays for linear algebra and matrix computations, 2-D/3-D graphic plotting, and advanced high-level numerical functions for linear systems, differential equation solving, integration, non-linear equations, Fourier analysis, etc.

Ch v2.1 is available for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, Linux, Solaris, and HP-UX. Ch Standard Edition is free for academic and non-profit organizations.

Cape Clear Software Unveils CapeNetTool

Cape Clear Software has announced CapeNetTool, a free Web Services development utility for monitoring and testing Web Services. CapeNetTool provides a way to read and understand, as well as edit and send, SOAP messages. It also reduces the time involved in managing and testing new services. Web Crossing Releases Web Crossing v4.1

Web Crossing, Inc. has announced Web Crossing v4.1, its community server. Web Crossing v4.1 is faster than version 4.0 due to caching improvements and includes new email and search functionality, enhanced server-side JavaScript, multi-domain web serving support, and much more. New features include email rules, which allow end users to filter incoming messages, use a “permitted correspondents” list to block unwanted senders, and reject messages; an Auto Responder, which allows a customized auto-response while on vacation; and email notification of discussion activity in HTML or plain text. New administrator features include URL redirection support and URL filename shortcuts; ability to automatically check user subscription changes immediately after making them; and automatic spell checking with the moderated word-checking feature.

Web Crossing v4.1 pricing starts at $295 a month for a per-seat or traffic-based license; pricing for a server-hosted (ASP) version starts at $65 a month. AD Software Announces OOFILE v1.4

AD Software has announced OOFILE v1.4, its cross-platform C++ application development library upgrade for MacOS/X, Mac Classic, Windows, and Unix. OOFILE is a family of C++ application frameworks providing a database API, report-writer, graphing, and forms interfaces on Macintosh, Windows, and Unix. OOFILE v1.4 offers improved debugging and is compatible with CodeWarrior Pro 7.1 and Visual C++ v6. This is the first fully Carbonized release that will run natively on Mac OS/X.

The bulk of OOFILE remains Open Source and only the commercial dBase-compatible and c-tree Plus database back ends are being charged for an upgrade.

American Arium Unveils SourcePoint 4.4

American Arium has announced SourcePoint 4.4, its debugging software formerly called WinDb. SourcePoint 4.4 offers USB connectivity for Intel Pentium II/III, Pentium II/III Xeon, Pentium 4, Celeron, Xeon, Itanium, etc. In addition, SourcePoint 4.4 offers four breakpoint types available in SMM mode; a “Classes” tab in the Symbols window that lists structure and class definitions; memory map options in the “Preferences” dialog box that allow users to define regions of memory and control how they are accessed by SourcePoint; and trace settings that allow users to hide or show byte enable lines and to display a trace cycle on single or multiple lines.

SourcePoint 4.4 runs under Microsoft Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, NT 4.0, and XP. It supports all American Arium emulators for Intel 32- and 64-bit processors.

Ubicom Debuts PhantomServer

Ubicom, Inc. has introduced PhantomServer, a 1 x 2 inch complete web server/Ethernet bridge solution. The module provides both an Ethernet LAN connection and web server support for the Web and works with standard browsers. PhantomServer can be embedded into electronic systems to allow remote monitoring and control over the Web. It is intended for use in prototype and pilot runs of web-enabled products to achieve fast time to market or to serve as a foundation for the development of integrated designs based on Ubicom’s IP2022 Internet Processor. The PhantomServer is available as an evaluation kit or as a stand-alone module.

The PhantomServer Evaluation kit, which costs $199 in quantities from 1 to 10, contains a PhantomServer module, Ethernet crossover cable, programming adapter, AC power adapter, and supporting technical and user documentation. Evaluation code is preprogrammed into the module’s memory to let the user fully exercise the PhantomServer. The PhantomServer Web server stand-alone module costs $149 for quantities from 1 to 10.

Virage Logic Introduces NOVeA RAM

Virage Logic Corporation has introduced NOVeA RAM embedded memory, a new non-volatile embedded memory. It reduces overall system costs, size, and enhances security while meeting time-to-market requirements by integrating moderate amounts of discrete non-volatile memory on a SoC. The NOVeA RAM is an electrically alterable non-volatile embedded memory. It retains its contents at power-off while also allowing data to be reprogrammed and erased.

NOVeA RAM is currently available in TSMC’s 0.18-micron standard logic process to customers for simulation and floorplanning.

MontaVista Offers MontaVista Linux 2.1

MontaVista Software Inc. has announced MontaVista Linux 2.1, its next generation embedded operating platform. MontaVista Linux 2.1 supports embedded processor architectures, CPU boards, and software components. It targets more than 20 processors from six industry-leading architectures, including x86/IA-32, PowerPC, StrongARM, XScale, ARM, MIPS, and SH. These CPUs populate more than 60 boards supported in the release, including 18 new boards. MontaVista Linux 2.1 focuses on cross-development capability, with tools hosted on 14 host environments, including Red Hat, Yellow Dog Linux, SuSE, Mandrake, Solaris, and VMWare on Windows NT/2000. Based on the latest Linux kernel, 2.4.17, it also offers real-time enhancements to the Linux kernel, including preemption on the x86, MIPS, SH, and PowerPC architectures.

In addition, MontaVista expands support for a variety of open source tools retargeted for embedded cross development, including the first MontaVista development environment powered by KDevelop, and adds an updated Linux trace tool, which is now available for the x86 and PowerPC. Also new is “Ext3,” a complementary journaling file system.

MontaVista Linux 2.1 is open source, royalty-free, and built from 100-percent pure Linux sources.

Green Hills Software Announces INTEGRITY v4.0

Green Hills Software has announced INTEGRITY v4.0, a real-time operating system optimized for embedded applications. Version 4, which now supports PowerPC, ARM, MIPS, and XScale processors, features full memory protection and guaranteed resource availability and delivers sub-200-nsec interrupt response and sub-microsecond context switching (as measured on a 233-MHz processor). INTEGRITY 4.0 provides a high-availability API, advanced multi-chassis, multitasking/multiprocessor debugging, and full kernel awareness. It also features a new system resource analysis tool, an enhanced EventAnalyzer for real-time event trace, a new project configuration tool, and extended I/O device and networking support.

CodeFX Unveils eCIFS

CodeFX has announced eCIFS, a portable embedded software library. eCIFS enables electronic devices to gain access to files stored on computers attached to a network. Devices running eCIFS can read, write, and modify files that Windows-, Macintosh-, or Unix-based computers have specified as “shared” on a network.

eCIFS costs $35,000 and includes full source code, documentation, no royalties, and code porting.
