Technology Builders Integrates Caliber-RM with Bender & Associates SoftTest 5.3

Technology Builders, Inc. has announced the integration of Caliber-RM with Bender & Associates SoftTest 5.3. Caliber-RM is an enterprise software tool that enables project teams to define, manage, and communicate changes to application and system requirements. The integration enables project teams to link requirements in Caliber-RM to the functional test cases generated by SoftTest 5.3, and to determine the functional coverage during the testing process for an application, regardless of platform or language.

SoftTest 5.3 analyzes the requirements for identifying the functional variations to test and then packages them into a minimum set of logical tests providing maximum functional coverage. It also identifies logical inconsistencies in the specifications.

FairCom Unveils FairCom Server v6.8

FairCom Corporation has released FairCom Server v6.8. Version 6.8 includes file encryption. Files that are encrypted using the FairCom Server's encryption algorithm can be decrypted only by the FairCom Server. In addition, the FairCom Server SDK allows developers to customize the encryption process so that only the server that has encrypted the data can access it.

The FairCom Server includes advanced, mirrored file features, specifically, the ability to re-acquire a lost mirrored start file. Mirrored files are automatically copied during a rebuild, automatic recovery, and dynamic dump restore.

Version 6.8 supports FreeBSD Unix, SCO UnixWare, and SGI IRIX. The servers cost $445 to $6,795, depending on the number of users.

Preview Systems Launches BetaQuest

Preview Systems has launched BetaQuest, a service that uses the Internet to directly connect software publishers and their beta testers. A publisher receives a unique URL and password that provides access to secure web-based reports and messaging applications. A small application called eBoomerang, configured to track menu selections, display new messages, and capture users responses, works in the background storing information until the tester establishes an Internet connection. Once a connection is made, information is relayed to a remote and secure database that only the publisher can access via the BetaQuest website.

Preview offers publishers training and support, with fees based on size and duration of the beta program. Prices start at $25,000 per beta test for a test of up to 500 users, 12 weeks in duration, and up to six builds during the test. Annual licensing programs are available based on projected beta testing needs.

Visual Numerics Releases IMSL C Numerical Library v3.0

Visual Numerics, Inc. has released IMSL C Numerical Library (CNL) v3.0. IMSL CNL is a comprehensive set of more than 250 pre-built mathematical and statistical analysis functions written in C that C or C++ programmers can embed into numerical analysis applications. The software supports symmetric multiprocessing technology.

The 22 new statistical functions are focused in two primary areas: time series analysis and forecasting, and non-parametric statistics. A GARCH (Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity) function, a time series analysis and forecasting function widely used in the financial services industry, has been included.

On Time Unleashes RTIP

On Time Software has released RTIP, an embedded TCP/IP network stack for On Time's 16- and 32-bit RTOSs. The 32-bit version can be used with On Time's core 32-bit RTOS RTTarget-32 for single-threaded operation, or in combination with RTKernel-32 for multitasking applications. A 16-bit version of RTIP is available for use with On Time's 16-bit RTKernel-C and RTFiles-16.

RTIP contains core TCP/IP protocols needed by any embedded network application. A number of add-ons are available to extend RTIP'S range of supported protocols.

An RTIP license costs $7,500. Add-ons are available at extra cost.

Dragon Systems Ships Dragon NaturallySpeaking Developer Suite v1.5

Dragon Systems has shipped Dragon NaturallySpeaking Developer Suite v1.5, a collection of tools and technology for creating and enhancing applications that recognize large-vocabulary, continuous speech. The tools include an SDK, the Dragon NaturalVoc tool, and a complete, fully licensed copy of NaturallySpeaking Professional.

IBM Debuts IBM ViaVoice SDK v1.5

IBM has announced ViaVoice SDK v1.5, a toolkit for the development of speech-enabled desktop, enterprise, and mobile applications. ViaVoice SDK offers tools that support standards such as SAPI 4.0, ActiveX, and SMAPI. The tools include components for speech recognition, command and control, and text-to-speech. Also included is the ability to integrate speaker identification and verification. The tools support English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese — all on one CD-ROM.

To use the speech tools available in ViaVoice SDK, developers must have a copy of the IBM ViaVoice Runtime Kit. The ViaVoice SDK costs $995. Trial versions and runtimes are available from the company's website.

Inabyte Introduces InaGrid 1.5

Inabyte Software has released InaGrid 1.5, a new version of the company's ActiveX Grid control for Visual Basic, Visual C++, and any language that supports OCXs. InaGrid, a virtual/unbound grid control, can support 900 trillion grid rows and two billion columns. At 95 KB in size, InaGrid supports essential formatting features only. Being virtual, it can implement and display data with no pre-load delays.

InaGrid supplies three editing controls that can be used to capture user input: InaEdit, InaCombo, and InaCheck. InaEdit is a text tool that enables users to enter data directly into cells; InaCombo places drop-down combo boxes in grid cells; and InaCheck places check-boxes into cells. Also, Inabyte provides access to InaEdits's source code, which serves as a demonstration on how to write an OCX wrapper for embedding any OCX in a cell.

Research Systems has released RiverTools, a commercial data-modeling application for terrain and river networks. RiverTools is designed to help hydrologists view and process digital elevation model data. It contains a full-featured topographic and hydrologic analysis application and combines comprehensive terrain and river network analysis with a point-and-click user interface.

RiverTools calculates the location and magnitude of streams and saves this information into a hierarchical river tree file for display and additional analysis. While creating the stream model, RiverTools automatically determines over a dozen characteristics for every node in the river tree.
